Austrian postal service provider Österreichische Post AG intends to decarbonise its core business by switching their delivery fleet entirely to electric vehicles by 2030. The company is determined to make the management and operation of its electric vehicles more reliable. With this in mind, it is announced that Post will be using Bamomas Battery Analytics System during a three-month trial – thus taking a significant step in the area of analytics-based battery management.

Post and Bamomas are collaborating through the Verbund X accelerator - the leading European co-creation platform that connects the world’s best start-ups and tech champions with industry leaders. This year for the third edition of the accelerator there were more than 190 applications from 32 countries. However, after the selection phase, only seven projects entered the Innovation Camp, which took place over three days in October. Bamomas will continue working on the proof-of-concept phase of the accelerator along with their corporate partner Österreichische Post AG.

Battery data from selected Post’s EV batteries will be continuously collected and transmitted to the cloud. It will then be evaluated by Bamomas Battery Analytics system using artificial intelligence for accurate estimation of Battery State of Health (SoH), thus saving valuable time and resources spent on manual vehicle battery testing.

Visibility into accurate and reliable battery health data will enable Post to deploy quick and effective predictive battery maintenance, expand the lifespan of their battery fleet through vehicle fleet optimization, and increase battery residual value. In addition, accurate Battery SoH data will also support and streamline warranties and claims processes for the battery fleet.

Österreichische Post is already operating an impressive fleet of 3,000 EVs which will eventually grow to 10,000 by 2030. Electric vehicles are the best fit for last-mile letter/package delivery due to relatively short distances, urban environment, and frequent starts/stops. Bamomas battery analytics will now be used on 5-10 vehicles in Post’s electric fleet. This will enable Post’s battery department to analyze the condition of vehicle batteries at any time by simply looking at the Bamomas battery analytics dashboard and having any necessary maintenance carried out.
